Course Description

The Domestic Wiring training provides participants with a solid foundation in domestic electrical wiring design and installation practices. This course will equip trainees with the knowledge and skills required to competently complete a domestic electrical installation PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENT & TARGET GROUP Trainees within the age group 18 years and above that possess a minimum of 4 credits (including mathematics, and English) at SSCE level. OND/HND holders and Engineering graduates requiring technical knowledge within the electrical trade COURSE DURATION The course is 6 weeks Monday – Friday: (8:00am –5:00pm) with a class size of 12 LUNCH Provided daily HOSTEL ACCOMODATION This is available at an extra cost MODE OF DELIVERY 1.Each trainee will be issued with a comprehensive training manual, as well as hand tools and power tools required to do all practical tasks 2.Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and Visual Aids 3.Practical hands-on Sessions 4.One-to-one instruction and team-building exercises in groups LEARNING OBJECTIVES On successful completion of this course each trainee will have a comprehensive understanding of the following: 1.Health & safety and being aware of the dangers of working on site 2.Will be familiar and would have worked with all the hand tools and power tools associated with a domestic installation, including electrical testing equipment 3.Be competently able to install a domestic-type distribution board and associated protective devices 4.Understand and install all the different types of domestic circuits 5.Correctly size all the protective devices and install an earthing system 6.Identification of specialized hand tools and relevant electrical symbols COURSE TOPICS *Read and interpret an electrical drawing, as well as wire various plug tops *Recognize electrical conductors and insulators, how to size conductors *Understand Ohm`s Law, resistors in series and parallel, circuit isolation, control and protection *Understand how MCB`s, RCD`s and RCBO`s operate, install and as well as wire a domestic type distribution board *Install domestic smoke detectors, cooker and water heater circuits. Carry out inspection and testing *Install various lighting circuits, 1 way, 2 way and intermediate.
