Course Description

This course will equip trainees with basic engineering skills required within the air conditioning trade to competently install and maintain split type air conditioning units. PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTS & TARGET GROUP Trainees within age group 18 years and above that possesses a minimum of 4 credits (including mathematics, English) at SSCE level. OND/HND holders and Engineering graduates requiring technical knowledge on the installation, operation and maintenance of Split Air-conditioning Units. COURSE DURATION The course is 6 weeks | Monday – Friday: (8:00am – 5:00pm) HOSTEL ACCOMODATION This is available at an extra cost MODE OF DELIVERY •Each trainee will be issued with hand tools and power tool required to do all practical tasks. •Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and visual aids •Equipment samples and practical hands on sessions •Audio/video techniques •One-to-one instruction and team-building exercises in groups LEARNING OBJECTIVES On successful completion of this course each trainee will have a comprehensive understanding of the following: •Basic engineering skills associated with the air conditioning trade •Interpret and follow basic engineering drawings •Competently use metric measuring tape, spirit levels and marking out devices •Bend, flare and braze copper pipe •Carry out pressure and leak tests •Safely handle brazing and refrigerant gases •Competently install and commission split type AC units COURSE CONTENT/TOPIC •Identification of hand tools, copper pipes & correct read a metric tape, spirit levels and marking out equipment •Measurement of temperature in different scales and terminology used within the trade •Drills, drill bits, fasteners and taps •Cutting, de-burring, expanding and flaring copper pipes •Bend, flare and braze copper pipe, basic electrical circuits associated with A/C •Principles of AC and basic vapor compression systems •Identify refrigerant gases and safe work practice, weigh, recover and storage •Understanding pressure and leak testing and fitting condensate pipe •Installation, commissioning and maintenance of AC split type, both the internal and external units ASSESSMENT • Multiple-choice examination & competency based practical examination CERTIFICATE On completion learners will receive a CPD Certificate – UK accredited
