Course Description

This course equips trainees with basic plastering skills to apply sand and cement rendering to walls both internal and external. PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTS & TARGET GROUP Trainees within age group 18 years and above that possess a minimum of 4 credits (including Math, English) at SSCE level. Suitable for people who want to learn the plastering trade, as well as those who are employed in the trade and require upskilling COURSE DURATION The course is 6 weeks | Monday – Friday: (8:00am – 5:00pm) LUNCH & TEA BREAKS Provided daily HOSTEL ACCOMODATION This is available at an extra cost COURSE TOPICS *Understand health & safety *Identification of hand tools, care and maintenance of tools and their correct use *Plastering craft background, types of sand and silt tests, cement, lime and other additives *Mix ratios, preparing walls and surfaces for plastering *European plastering techniques and aftercare of plastered walls LEARNING OBJECTIVES On successful completion of this course each trainee will have a comprehensive understanding of the following: 1.Health and safety and be aware of the dangers of working on site. 2.Will be familiar and will have worked with all the hand tool associated with plastering by the European method. 3.Be confidently able to read a metric measuring tape and use spirit levels to find the vertical and horizontal planes. 4.Understand ratios and accurately mix the components to make a suitable plastering mix. 5.Will be competently able to apply a scud coat, a scratch coat and a finish coat to a high standard. 6.Will be able to create reveals, bands, bell casts, plinths and ashlar finishes. 7.How to do all the aftercare work to ensure rendering cures properly. MODE OF DELIVERY *Each trainee will be issued with a comprehensive training manual, as well as, hand tools and power tools required to do all practical tasks *Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and Visual Aids Practical hands on Sessions *Use of audio/videos to demonstrate current industry practices *One-to-one instruction and team-building exercises in groups *Discussion and feedback from participants during each topic forms an important element of the learning process ASSESSMENT This course is assessed through a multiple-choice examination, as well as a competency based practical examination. CERTIFICATION On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a certificate accredited by the CPD Certificate Service. A UK accrediting body.
