Course Description

The course provides participants with the most up-to-date information to supervise and lead the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of solar photovoltaic systems, as well as understand the theory underlying solar power. The course prepares participants to operate successfully in the renewables & solar energy industries, both locally and globally, and is appropriate for persons with both basic and advanced knowledge. PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTS & TARGET GROUP Trainees within age group 18 years and above that possesses a minimum of 4 credits (in mathematics, English, physics and any other science subject) at SSCE level or proven experience in electrical field. OND/HND holders and Engineering graduates requiring technical knowledge on Solar Photovoltaic Installation & Maintenance. COURSE DURATION The course is 6 weeks and has a contact period of 240 hours, Mon – Fri: (8:00am – 5:00pm) with a class size of 25. LUNCH Provided daily HOSTEL ACCOMODATION This is available at an extra cost MODE OF DELIVERY 1. Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and Visual Aids. 2. Use of didactic training equipment and practical hands-on Sessions. 3. Use of audio/videos to demonstrate current industry practices. 4. One-to-one instruction and team-building exercises in groups. 5. Discussion and feedback from participants during each topic forms an important element of the learning process. LEARNING OBJECTIVES This curriculum is designed to enable technicians with formal educational experience to supervise and lead the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of solar photovoltaic systems. Participants will be able to do the following after completing this course: 1. Size stand-alone PV systems 2. Lead installation activities 3. Install PV systems (off-grid & grid connected) 4. Perform maintenance and troubleshooting tasks 5. Maintain records required for monitoring PV systems 6. Observe health and safety regulations 7. Manage and maintain relationships with customers ASSESSMENT This course is assessed through a multiple-choice examination, as well as a competency-based practical examination. CERTIFICATE Trainees can also receive a certificate accredited by The Council of Regulation for Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) - https://www.coren.gov.ng/ This comes at an additional cost
